I’ve never cared much for plane rides but mom loved to fly. Especially during turbulence which she likened to a “roller coaster” ride. She was kind of disturbed that way! She believed in kindness to all creatures great and small. She used to make us crazy as kids when we’d go camping and she would leave the emptied cans of tuna from lunch out on our picnic table to feed the yellow jackets. I’m a bitch I’m lover I’m a crazy ass mother.

Born on December 20, 1935, to an emotionally absent father and a domineering and tyrannical mother (her descriptions), she would survive to go on and raise two wild-ass sons as best she could. It could not have been easy. She sometimes expressed her doubts that she had been a good mother, but speaking for myself I can assure you that more often than not she was a much better mother than her kids were sons. She was my biggest fan, of my music and every band I’ve ever been in. She gave regularly to the Humane Society, the Gorilla Fund, and Doctors Without Borders and volunteered at local botanical gardens and a raptor rehab center. I’m a bitch I’m lover I’m a crazy ass mother.

My stronger mom, my big hero

Mom really loved a good roller coaster ride. So much so, in fact, that in my early teens she got into a fistfight with a woman at Six Flags Magic Mountain, on the boarding platform of the Mountain Express coaster, after this woman and a couple of her cocky friends/family line-jumped several rows in front of us, pissing off mom and her friends enough to return the favor and cut in front of the line-jumpers. Horrified as I was at the melee, the upside was that the line-jumpers got ejected from the park and our group was escorted by park security between the Express and one of the log rides, back and forth, over and over as many times as we wanted without waiting in line! Way to go, Mom!! Take a beat-down for Roller Coaster justice!
