Life is kind of like a party. You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up really late. But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. And most of the time, they aren’t even the ones who made the mess. These people are your true friends in life. They are the only ones who matter.

Doing my best but kind of a mess

I don’t think anyone wakes up and says, “I’m going to make a total mess of my life today. I plan to purposefully ignore all the wisdom God has ever given me, sin like crazy and ruin all that I hold dear.” No. I think the unraveling of life starts slowly. Much like what happened to a beloved sweater I once owned. It was the kind of sweater that snagged easily if I wasn’t careful. For the longest time, I was mindful of the delicate nature of this sweater – protecting it so I could make it last and enjoy wearing it time and again. But one day I got in a hurry and pulled a huge snag in it. And instead of taking the time to properly repair it, I snipped the loose threads and hoped for the best. That decision started an unraveling process that ended the life of my beautiful sweater.

Why am I sharing this with you?

Because I want us to remember that we need to be women who guard our hearts carefully. Women who watch out for any areas that can become “snagging” points in our relationship with the Lord. Areas of sin that we refuse to deal with. Seemingly small compromises we make all in the name of following our heart and being happy. People, possessions or accomplishments that have our attention and our affection more than God. God wants to be our soul’s sole desire. And the minute we turn our heart away from God is the minute our legacy begins to unravel.
